MARS, situated just outside Mars, PA, functions as an attic-mounted gateway node. While it benefits from a higher elevation relative to the surrounding terrain, the area continues to present significant challenges for Meshtastic connectivity.
The system utilizes a HELTEC V4 device, integrated into the mesh network with a 5.8 dB antenna, and Wi-Fi locally. It is connected via USB to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, and wired to the GPIO pins, enabling remote bootloader activation for firmware updates initiated from the Pi.
Additionally, the Raspberry Pi operates as an ADS-B feeder, providing data to both FlightAware and FlightRadar24.
